Phoenix Trading started back in 1994 when three South London based mothers put a tenner each into a kitty to buy wholesale greeting cards from a local publisher. The three partners worked part-time for a year selling the cards direct to friends, family and at fundraising events for schools and charities. By September 1995 they had amassed enough profit to print their first 13 designs as publishers in their own right. In 2001, Phoenix Trading became a limited company rather than a partnership. The business has grown exponentially and is now one of the top 10 UK direct-selling companies, with more than 10,000 Traders and sales of over 100 million cards.
Phoenix Trading is passionately committed to giving back to the communities in which it operates. The Company has a long history of charitable giving, having donated more than £500,000, raised through the sale of charity Christmas cards, to Cancer Research UK over the past twelve years. The Company has also chosen to support Children’s Hospice UK over the next few years. When Phoenix Trading launched in Australia, it nominated national cancer charity, CanTeen as its beneficiary and has donated more than AU$20,000 to the organisation since 2006.
In addition to the corporate donations made by Phoenix, its global network of more than 10,000 Traders hold their own individual fundraising activities throughout the year to help support charities and other good causes. Their outstanding efforts are estimated to be more than a match for the money that’s raised at a corporate level each year.
In 2008, The Phoenix International Charity was launched as an independent charitable initiative to act as an umbrella organisation, bringing together corporate and Trader fundraising. The Phoenix International Charity is dedicated to providing financial assistance to a broad portfolio of charities from around the world, including Cancer Research UK, Children’s Hospices UK, CanTeen, Hospice New Zealand, the American Breast Cancer Foundation and Les Restos du Coeur.
