Title

Genital Yeast Infection - WebHealth

Description

Excerpted from the website description:

Genital yeast infection is more common in females where vaginal yeast infection can be associated with pregnancy, menopause, or other hormone fluctuations. Male yeast infection is less common. Antibiotic therapy leads to a dysbalance of the normal vaginal flora, so that lactobacillus is produced less and this allows candida albicans to multiply. Treatment involves the use of nystatin, or clotrimazole, brand name canesten. In resistant cases fluconazole, brand name diflucan, is used as tablets. The glans penis of an uncircumcised man is more prone to yeast infection, particularly with diabetes, or a weak immune system. This condition is called balanitis, and there are often the characteristic satellite lesions present. Treatment consists of loprox cream, possibly helped by ketoconazole, taken by mouth.
