Hi! Recently, I had the occasion to engage my little cousin, David, in conversation about his present school grades and his future. He made it clear to me that he was unsure about his future since he was only nine years old and his experience at school was "not good." In fact, after prodding for more information, he confided to me that his grades were dropping and that he found school "boring".
Suddenly, Angela, his fourteen year old sister, vigorously defended her little brother by indicating that "He's still getting A's in computer class!" It immediately dawned on me that I had an extra computer in my closet and by giving it (along with some educational software) to David, I could help improve the quality of his life. When I asked David if he would like his own computer, he sat straight up, opened his eyes wide and said, "You would give me my own computer??? I would do anything for my own computer! But...do I have to share it with my sister?"
PC4 Explorers was created as a result of that conversation with little David. It was evident that David's reaction to owning his own computer most likely reflected the desires of many inner-city children who are less fortunate and unable to buy a computer of their own.
