PatagonBird - Home - Hand Crafted Unique Art Objects

Description

PatagonBird is a New York-based family-run company. We started in 1998 with a commitment to help indigenous people from Argentina, not by way of charity but helping them find new markets for their beautiful craft. We strongly believe in the dignity of work and we are proud to say that we are now working with large communities of indians in the Northwest of Argentina, such as the Wichi people from Mision Chaqueña, Salta, and the Chiriguano indians from Salta and Formosa provinces.

The economic crisis in Argentina prompted us to explore new relationships, bringing together Argentine artists living in Argentina, Argentine artists living abroad, and nomadic artists who live and work in more than one place.

My name is Laura Sofi, an Argentinean who came to the US about 10 years ago. My "past life" includes a bachelor in Art History and Restoration, a Masters in Biology, many years as a science writer in my home land, and last but not least, and artisan myself. Here I live with my husband, Horacio, the charming guy that you may see in street fairs, sweating & carrying boxes and all kind of heavy stuff & equipment to the streets on weekends, rain or shine. Key to our work is our partner Nestor, with whom we have been developing and marketing mobiles that represent musicians and other peoples in action. For more information about the mobiles, please visit the website www.amazing-mobiles.com. Besides work, we love traveling and birdwatching. And we like strolling and biking around Central Park, all year round.
