Over The Crux officially opened for business on April 9, 2004. We are currently the only 'all climbing' shop in the Valley of the Sun. Our business goal is to provide the Phoenix-metro area with a store that deals solely with rock climbing gear at competitive prices that is owned and operated by climbers to offer the best possible service to our customers. While the valley is currently host to two REI's as well as the Arizona Hiking Shack, we felt that something was missing. Our store is small but is growing due to the support of local gyms and climbers.
As climbers, many of you know that the crux is the hardest part of the route or problem. Shelley and Daniel decided on the name one Arizona winter evening while working out their business plan. It was the intention to create a name for the store that was a metaphor for success and an inspiration to excel in both climbing and life. As the store progresses, the name takes on new meanings as well.
