Site about the oldest church in Amsterdam, European monument build in 1260, still in the heart of amsterdam. Rembrandt married his first wife, Saskia in the Old Church and she is buries there, next to other famous Dutch people, mayors or seaconcuerers like Jacob va Heemskerk who survived Nova Sembla. The Oude Kerk is now a centre of cultural activities in the heart of the old town centre. The beautiful light through the high windows, the medieval church furnishing, gravestones and the magnificent painted wooden vaults, create a unique atmosphere. The Oude Kerk has a total area of 4000 m2 ; two organs: a transept organ (1658) and the well-known Vater/Müller organ (1724), nowadays both used for concerts. Besides cultural events, exhibitions and concerts dinner parties, receptions, business presentations and meetings, the monument is open to visitors.
