Title

Osceola Library System

Description

Prior to 1989 we had a cooperative arrangement with the Orange County Library System to provide library service for Osceola county residents. On April 1, 1989, we began operations as an independent entity offering county-wide library service. Originally consisting of three small branches and a total book collection of approximately 70,000 volumes, we experienced explosive growth over the ensuing years.

Currently, we have six full-service libraries and one annex library. Our full-service libraries are located in downtown Kissimmee and St. Cloud as well as the communities of Poinciana, Buenaventura Lakes, Kenansville and soon Celebration. Each of our full-service libraries have reference librarians, public Internet access computers, a wide range of in-library online databases, fiction and non-fiction books, serial publications, audio-visual resources featuring DVDs, books on CD and music, as well as adult and children's programming. Our annex libraries are located in Osceola county's less populated areas and have restricted days and hours of operation. For more information concerning the hours of operation for each branch, please see our branches page.

Since we began operations in 1989, our collection has increased to over 343,000 books and a combined audio/video collection of over 13,000. As we are located in the heart of one of the world's favorite tourist destinations, we have seen our library visits increase to almost 500,000 a year with a circulation of over 625,000 resources. These figures promise to continue increasing, at what some days feels is an exponential rate, and we look forward to continuing to provide first-rate service to the residents of Osceola County and all its visitors.
