Beautiful nature, comfortable climate and easy going, friendly people in New Zealand had repeatedly provided us with a welcome change to our working life in metropolitan, busy and noisy Asian cities like Hong Kong, Singapore and Seoul; so finally we decided to settle down in Kerikeri, rather than in our North German homeland.
Tired of banking and trading, yet too young to "retire" at the age of 50, we wanted to combine our ample international travel and tourism experience with our desire for a peaceful place to live. During our travels, we gathered many ideas of how to create a comfortable environment for happy vacationers or weary travellers – now we aim at realizing these ideas by creating a luxurious yet homely little hotel where we ourselves would like to stay.
The subtropical climate, lush vegetation, closeness to the ocean, and the cosmopolitan, friendly and artistic population of prosperous Kerikeri attracted us most. We found and bought the "Riverview Park Lodge", with its well-built chalets reaching into a historic and nature reserve, at the tip of the Kerikeri Inlet – an ideal place for providing luxurious accommodation to our guests. The change of name to ORA ORA RESORT -Villas and Restaurant- reflects our additional focus on health for body and mind: "Ora" means "alive, well, satisfied" in the Maori language.
