- Back in mid march, I decided to hold myself accountable for my online poker play by maintaining a spreadsheet documenting where I played, how long I played, and how much money I made or lost each session. The results are rather depressing — minus $693 over 190 hours. My BB/hr is 3.45/hr which is not bad but it’s not good either. At my highest point, I was up around $7000 but at $5/10 NL, that number can quickly change. This is probably the 3rd time in the past year where I’ve made and lost $5-7k within a 3 day period. The first time was when I won a $15 NL freezeout that paid $5k, then I lost it playing $30/60. The second time, I made $6k over a weekend starting with $100. I decided to test out the theory I came up with while playing $2 Hold ‘Em at Derby Lane. The theory goes something like this. If you’re at a table where people don’t fold (no fold ‘em hold ‘em), then let others do the betting/raising for you and just call all the way. Of course you should still fold if you think you’re beat. I haven’t used it enough to definitively say it works but for the short time I used it, it worked like a charm. Anyway, this last experiment seemed to be going well at first. I think I got a little carried away with the risks I was taking trying to break the $10,000 mark but if I were to do it all over again, I’d probably exhibit a little more patience before moving up in stakes. At least my BB/hr is still positive. For now, I think I’m going to stick to one NL freezeout per week and that’s it.
