From my family's deeply rooted Croatian heritage, I am pleased to present to you Old-Country Bakery's Povitica Classic ® Sweet Gourmet Breads.
It has been over 40 years since my mother and aunt first passed on to me the unique recipe and special techniques for creating Povitica (po-vuh-tee-tsa), an authentic Croatian delicacy.
Over the years, making Povitica became an art form for me. In my small kitchen, I would prepare 8 or so Poviticas at a time, slowly and meticulously, trying to make each of them a masterpiece. Dough was my canvas and the filling my palette - crazy, but true! While they did not all come out identical in size and shape, they all had two things in common, a wonderful taste that they were made from my heart.
