Description
Nine years ago, I walked down the aisle in a cap and gown, and graduated from Syracuse University. While stepping out into a seemingly uncertain future is something that all graduates face, the path I chose to take was even less certain – I started up my own business. It was created out of my addiction to scouring second hand stores and a love of vintage clothing. I figured with my background in history and photography, I could at least make some pretty pictures and write text with an air of authority so that someone might want to buy them from me off of the internet. However, there was so much more to learn; I jumped right in, having to learn bookkeeping, accounting, how to manage a cash flow that wasn’t always in hand, and taxes. I learned quickly – though trial and error – about customer service, internet etiquette and the shipping process. With a little help from a former roommate, I taught myself how to write and design web pages in the hyper text markup language (HTML), and evolved from being a pioneer of the eBay craze into the success of my own internet store www.old-clothes.com.
