Ohev Shalom was founded with the purpose of exposing --- not imposing --- the timeless truths of our beautiful heritage to our fellow Jews. We endeavor to create a warm and non-intimidating environment based on Torah tradition; a place where Jews of all backgrounds feel at home.
In August, 1986, Rabbi Aryeh and Henny Rodin moved to far North Dallas to start an orthodox synagogue and Torah outreach center. For sixteen months, Shabbat services and torah classes were held in the Rodin's living room. Slowly, a handful of people started to attend regularly Realizing that appreciable growth was highly unlikely in such confining quarters, this fledging group rented space from a local shopping center to heighten its visibility, and ultimately, its viability.
As the Congregation grew, Rabbi and Henny asked a number of qualified people to become Ohev Shalom's first board of directors. Then, in 1992, Ohev Shalom purchased the property that now occupies at McCallum and Hillcrest. A three-step building renovation program was soon implemented in order to meet the needs of the growing membership.
