Description
In the late 1960's a group of able and like-minded Home Economists founded the Ontario Home Economists in Business (OHEIB). Over the years, the profession and the association have grown. OHEIB was incorporated in 1982 and presently has about 150 members located in and around the Greater Toronto Area.
In the early days business Home Economists were employed by food companies or the various branches of government. The profession has expanded immensely and Home Economists work in diverse areas such as marketing, advertising, public relations, media (print, radio and television), food styling, consumer relations and product testing. About half of our members are freelance consultants.
Many of our members also belong to OHEA (Ontario Home Economics Association). In 1989, the professional body of OHEA received registered status, providing regulation by an established code of ethics, rules of professional conduct, disciplinary procedures, standards of education and practice. Professional Home Economist is the professional registration title - and PHEc is the designation - of qualified members of OHEA. Home Economists are registered in four other provinces, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and New Brunswick.
