Cathy Chapman, Ph.D., LMSW-ACP, LPC, C.Ht., CHTP/I, has practiced psychotherapy since 1976. Over the years she has integrated spirituality, psychotherapy, energy work and hypnotherapy into Spiritual Energetic Psychotherapy™, a powerful form of brief therapy. Cathy's work is based upon the belief that people are housed in a physical body for the purpose of spiritual growth. Each life event can lead to spiritual and emotional growth. Beliefs such as "I'm not good enough," "I'm unlovable," "Only bad things happen to me," "My value depends upon what I do," sabotage healthy relationships with God, ourselves and others. Cathy journeys with individuals helping them discover their truth. Each person is made in the image and likeness of God; therefore, since God is Love, each person is Love. All are learning to be the Love that we are as we learn to forgive, ask forgiveness, and accept ourselves and others. The journey brings us to realize that we all are part of the divine Oneness.
Her own journey to wholeness has prepared Cathy to share what she has discovered about spiritual growth. Cathy began as a traditional Roman Catholic and was in the convent as a Dominican Sister for 20 years. Those fruitful 20 years taught her much about spiritual growth, living with others and the struggle to be her authentic self. While in the convent Cathy was introduced to Centering Prayer, a mystical form of prayer. She began to sense that God was within and not some being somewhere "out there." Several years later she was introduced to energy work through Healing Touch™ ( which precipitated a radical change in her spiritual life. The experience of God became a daily reality. Some of the multitude of spiritual helpers on the inner planes began to reveal themselves to her. Soon she became aware of the dark side of the spiritual world and discovered that her path included re-membering the dark to the Light. As her involvement in mysticism grew, Cathy found the structure of the convent restrictive and left.
Cathy's doctorate is in Mind/Body Psychology from The Union Institute (www.tui.edu). She holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Arts in Theology from the University of Notre Dame. Cathy is a Licensed Master Social Worker--Advanced Clinical Practitioner (LMSW-ACP), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Hypnotherapist (C.Ht.), a Certified Healing Touch™ Practitioner and Instructor (CHTP/I), and a Certified Melchizedek Facilitator. She has received certificates in Advanced Hypnotherapy and Release Therapy. She has also studied Pranic Healing and is a Reiki Master.
