Title

Ocean Quigley - Fine artist

Description

Ocean Quigley is an award-winning realist painter living and working in Oakland, California. He attended Parson's School of Design in Manhattan, Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland. He comes from a family of artists; his mother, Alexis America, is an illustrator in Maui and his father, Jack Sinclair, is a painter in Santa Fe.

Early on in his development, Ocean fell in love with drawing and painting the human figure. Ocean went on to explore the world of still lifes choosing everyday but extraordinary objects. It isn’t the objects, though, that are the subject of these paintings but rather the play of light, ambiance, and color. The paintings are more than snapshots of the scenes, they represent the glory in everyday life.

In 1991, Ocean moved to California where he set his sights beyond the studio to capture the landscape of his new home in the Bay Area. As in his still lifes, light is the true subject as its warmth diffuses through the moist coastal California air. In his most recent paintings he has been exploring the interplay of the afternoon light with water, surf, and coastal cliffs in Marin and Sonoma. These works capture some of the majesty and scale of the awesome California coast.
