Ocean Conservation Society of Southern California

Description

The Ocean Conservation Society research vessel, “Gone With The Wind” is a fifty foot Santa Cruz 50 sailboat optimized for offshore navigation. She is equipped with a full compliment of electronics and communication equipment allowing us to download satellite data on weather trends and oceanographic conditions and utilize e-mail while underway.

She is self-contained with a full galley, ample storage, refrigeration and a water maker. “Gone With The Wind” has a raised settee for comfortable group dining and accommodations for eight people with two private double cabins and a full head with hot water and shower.

Stable and fast, she has a racing pedigree and has won her class in numerous ocean races including TransPac (L.A. to Hawaii) and Coastal Cup (San Francisco to L.A.). Her keel and rudder were recently redesigned and re-fit based on the technology of the Americas Cup boat “America One”. An inboard diesel allows fast and comfortable motoring at speeds over 9 knots.
