Description
I began using a cane over 20 years ago because of a neuromuscular disease called, Charcot Marie Tooth Disease or CMT for short. CMT news website (www.cmtworld.org). By my late 20s I needed to use a cane. I had very little balance and struggled to walk any distance. Outdoor activities were difficult and my energy level was low. I didn't want to use a walking cane but I was not going to stop doing all the things I loved to do.
A friend gave me a very unique painted cane. I used it for several years. It became badly worn so I began looking for another. I searched but couldn't find one I liked. I wanted a cane that was beautiful, fun and unique.
It seems as though everyone has a cane story. My Great Grandfather had a very special walking cane. His cane was simply made but in the center of the shaft, it had a knothole. If you looked inside the small knothole, you could read a Bible verse. I was just a little girl but even now I still believe his cane was magic.
