About NightStoneJewelry.com

Made a number of opals tonight, including two really nice doublets. 0189CP This one has a lot more flash to it than it would reveal for the camera. 16mm x 9mm x 5mm 4.5c 0190CP Killer broad flash on this one. Green and yellow depending on angles. 13mm x 8mm x 3.5mm Sadly, it has a fracture on the back. 0191CP An odd shaped opal with a stripe of color through it. 14mm x 9mm x 3mm 2.8c 0192CP 13mm x 7mm x 4mm 2.35c. Nice freeform. Has reds from the sides and green from the face. Night Stone Jewelry started early in 2008 when the owner decided to take his love of opals from window shopping to the realm of creating. Working with rough opal material and wet-sand paper, he created his first opals completely by hand. While an effective method of making cabochons, it quickly became apparent that it wasn't exactly the most efficient method, and so began the purchasing of machines.

Today, The Night Stone Jewelry lapidary workshop is a full set up including saws, grinders and polishing.

In 2009, Night Stone Jewelry moved into not only creating the cabochons, but to creating silver jewelry to put the cabochons in.

Loose opals, cabochons, jewelry, and the occasional off topic are updated on the Night Stone Jewelry weblog at http://www.nightstonejewelry.com

The story of the name: Night Stone Jewelry got its name from two aspects of the lapidary work. First, a "night stone" is used sometimes to describe an opal with exceptionally bright fire that can be seen even in low light situations, sometimes giving the appearance that it has it's own source of light from within (while this may work in movies, it is not true of the real gems). The other half is that the owner works primarily at night.
