- NICE Magazine got its start in a fit of madness. In the early 1990s, founder, D. Robert, a once laid back, easy going cruiser from Hawai’i did what any aspiring Hawai’ian does — he moved to the Mainland to expand his horizons. What he found was an incredible mix of experiences, situations and interactions, the likes of which just didn’t happen back home. Along with all of the nice folks he met, the tremendous negativity, disrespectfulness and downright meanness that existed here at times astounded him. You’re probably thinking, “Welcome to the real world, poor D.”
