Description
ni.* newsgroups draft general rules
Spamming to NI groups (or to other groups) is a Bad Thing. In other words, you shouldn't post the same message to multiple newsgroups in the NI hierarchy. The idea behind having different newsgroups is to try and impose some order on Usenet. Without it, it all turns into one mess of threadless chatter. Most people subscribe to more than one NI group and dont need to see your message more than once. This equally appiles to posting the same message multiple times in the same newsgroup.
If you want to advertise something, make sure you do it in a net-friendly way. Remember that not everyone wants to read your advert. Other people are paying to read your advert. If you can, post it to one group where it is of most relevance. If you are advertising a Web site, ni.www or ni.announce is probably the best place for it.
There is no need to quote an entire message to add your reply. Most news software uses "threading" and so if you reply to a message then your message is included in the thread.
