Description

Competent and sympathetic staff are always available to help, advise and to carry out the wishes of those suffering the loss of relative or friend.

In the early years, the firm carried out its work with two Shellabiers and three Broughams drawn by black Belgian horses but these were gradually phased out from 1935 giving way to a modern fleet of motor vehicles. It was not until 1948, however, that the last of the horses was finally put out to grass at Tingrith. We now run a fine fleet of Mercedes Hearses and six -door limousines.

The original premises in Castle Street and Victoria Street Luton were demolished to make way for a new ring road in 1968. New offices and Chapels of Rest were then built in Leagrave giving all the amenities we could provide for a complete service. In 1976, we acquired George Squire & Sons, in Shefford, providing an opportunity to add a monumental department to further enhance our service, together with funeral offices and Chapels of Rest. A further office and Chapel was provided in Ampthill in 1987, created from a redundant church. This also became the base for our flower service which was introduced at this time. In 1990 we acquired Arnolds Funeral Service in Bedford, and then in 1997, G.Hall & Sons in Hemel Hempstead became part of our group of family businesses.
