Description

The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival (NCSF) was founded in 1977. Its mission is to entertain and educate the citizens and students of North Carolina with quality professional classic theatre productions. Artistically, NCSF is dedicated to producing great plays, to providing an environment where theatre artists can aspire to the highest levels of professional achievement, and to inspiring its audiences with the priceless inheritance left us by the world's greatest dramatists.

Over the years, NCSF has developed a variety of programs which serve a large and diverse statewide audience. The MainStage repertory presents major classical productions each summer/fall. A Christmas Carol is presented to family audiences each December. The company's Educational Outreach activities include: SchoolFest, a series of 10 a.m. student matinees of major productions, GlobeWorks, a compendium of Shakespeare scenes which tours to middle and secondary schools statewide; and OnTour, a program of major productions touring colleges, universities and civic centers statewide.

Augmenting NCSF's production format is a series of programs which enhance appreciation and understanding of the theatre. These include: AfterWords post-performance discussions; The Nancy Lyles Classics in Context Seminars over-viewing the MainStage season's plays; and The Tiny Tim Project providing free A Christmas Carol tickets to disadvantaged youth.
