Description

The Nair community of Kerala, at the peninsular tip of India, inherit a rich cultural repertoire. Kerala, legendary Malabar of history, was the sought after destination of sea farers like Vasco Da Gama. Members of the Nair community are now spread over the country and the entire world. Anthropologically looked at the Nairs have many unique attributes celebrated by different authors.

Originally a martial nobility the Nair culture also shows a great degree of symbiosis with nature. With an undying continuity the Nairs have withstood all onslaughts in history. However faced with modernization and cultural homogenization the inherent strengths of the people are fast getting eroded. And the community members often lack a proper understanding of the unique attributes as there are no concrete efforts to do that. More so with the new generations who are at a loss to know their illustrious roots. With the changing times economically also there are challenges which needs to be addressed. It is essential that the community, more so with the younger generations, have an objective sense of its own making. Incomparable as it is past glory is also not to be an obsession, rather it has to be a mine of inner strength.

This site and associated activities are the results of this realization. More than a source of information this site is primarily to be a linkage to organize the members of the community across the globe and act as a platform for mutual help. Kerala society and economy are fast undergoing changes and those communities which are organized and with links to international capital are at an advantage. With negligible inputs of international capital severely disorganized and the traditional support systems like the agrarian economy collapsing the Nair community is facing a challenge so far unknown.
