Title
Mythography | Exploring Greek, Roman, and Celtic Mythology and Art
Description
Mythography was started in 1997 as a resource for information about mythology. Classical mythology (in other words, Greek and Roman mythology) was the original focus of the site. As one of the site's developers is an art historian and writer, the relationship between myth and art was soon added to the Mythography mix.
In time, as the site evolved, Celtic mythology was featured along with Greek and Roman myths. If you study Celtic mythology, you will notice the striking similarities - and equally striking differences - between these myths and Classical tales of gods and heroes. From the combination of this trio of mythological topics, the focus of the site became clear.
We believe that a web site should be something that grows and evolves over time. Therefore, we are constantly striving to make Mythography more comprehensive. In addition to the books and recommended resources, the message forums, and the search feature, we have added Greek, Roman, and Celtic lexicons to define the terms used to discuss mythology and a section devoted to the ancient poets and mythographers. And we are always working to include more useful information.
