Description
The Ministry of Youth Development (MYD) - Te Manatû Whakahiato Taiohi - promotes the interests of young people aged between 12 and 24 years inclusive. We encourage and assist the involvement of young people in the social, educational, economic and cultural development of New Zealand, both locally and nationally.
By listening and responding to the needs of young people, we are always seeking ways to help ensure that young people are valued, nurtured and challenged to realise their full potential.
In 1988 Government recognised that young people had little influence in decision-making processes, despite being profoundly affected by social, economic and political conditions. As a result the Ministry of Youth Affairs was established.
