Here at Myanka we take our dogs' health and happiness to heart. A fat dog is an unhealthy dog. High quality food, regular exercise both physically and mentally, plus tons of Tender Loving Care are the keys to happy, well-adjusted, healthy dogs that are easy to live with. Our dogs live in the house. We don't even have kennels. What we have is almost an acre of fenced property attached to the house for easy access all year-round. We are fortunate enough to own property in the back country, a heavily wooded area far from main roads and populated areas where the dogs can be walked freely and safely. There is nothing better than a long walk in the woods for the body and mind of both humans and beasts!
We also believe in naturally feeding our dogs and in 2001 opted for a raw diet called BARF (Bones And Raw Food) consisting mainly of a variety of raw meaty bones (such as chicken necks and wings) and raw vegetables. While we have seen a physical improvement in our dogs (muscle tone and coat amongst others) we were amazed at how our dogs seemed to do better mentally. They were happier, more content and calmer, but at the same time seemed to have more energy for everyday activities. We try to stay involved in the dog world either by being active in our breed club, by showing our dogs or by simply going to dog shows, by subscribing to dog magazines, attending seminars, etc. We feel that the only way to keep on learning about our breed and about dogs in general is to do so. Good breeders are aware of what is going on within the breed and the dog world, they know about other breeders and their dogs, about structure, about health problems, etc. If you are looking for a dog beware of people who know little outside their own dogs. If it is true that there might be some very good dogs who never see the inside of a show ring it is also true that it is still the best place to compare them to other dogs and really appreciate what they are worth. On this note while a high number of dogs of good quality are awarded a championship title we believe that not all of them should be bred but only those of superior quality, good temperament and good health.
