Hand painted and personalized baby plates

Description

came to me one day shortly after the September 11th Tragedy. I was reading an article on how Americans were feeling the need to bring back more traditional things in their lives. I began to think of my own family and the things that I wanted my children to remember from their childhood. I also wanted to create a keepsake that they could pass on to their own children one day.

I wanted to duplicate a set of personalized hand painted plates my husband had been given as a child. My children eat from them today and I love the idea of that. Then came the incorporation of the prayer. I don't know when exactly I decided to add a prayer, but I remember why I thought of it.

My own son's first prayer left a lot to be desired. The Christian daycare he attended was teaching them about prayer. We had been talking about God on our rides home that whole week, so when the conversation changed, it didn't phase me. As soon as he got in the car he asked me if it was okay to pray about anything. To which I assured him it was. He then asked if it was okay to pray any time of day and anywhere. Again, I said it was. He asked if we could take a minute and pray and of course I said yes. He sat up on his little knees and clasped his little hands together on his forehead and began his prayer. It went something like this, "God, Please let me and mommy make it home before the ice cream truck!!" The hardest thing I've ever had to do was to hold back the laughter the whole way home! FYI, we made it home in plenty of time to get that ice cream!
