Moosup Valley Designs is owned by Rachel and Kirk Badeau of Foster, Rhode Island. Their love of animals, nature, and their rural surroundings is reflected in their work. The detail in Rachel's work captures the deep feelings she has for animals and nature, and the whimsy in her pieces reflects her humor and wit.
Rachel's work has progressed from scrimshaw jewelry 25 years ago to her 18 years of creating original hand colored, embossed etchings. Her current interests are in creating original hand carvings and engravings in fossilized ivory and antler. She also carves in wax and clay to create the shapes that she uses in creating her original engraved works that are then cast in resin.
Foster is located in northwestern Rhode Island. Part of Providence County, it is bordered on the north by Glocester, on the south by Coventry, on the east by Scituate, and on the west by Sterling and Killingly, CT. Moosup Valley is one of four villages or localities in the Town of Foster, the others being North Foster, South Foster, and Foster Center.
