Howdy and thank you for visiting my classroom website. My name is Tracie Pohlmeyer and I teach at Tenie Holmes Elementary in Bay City, TX. I have lived in Bay City my whole life and graduated from Bay City High School in 1979. It wasn’t until 1990 and my children were in elementary school, that I started back to college to work on my teaching degree. In 1995, I graduated from the University of Houston-Victoria with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Early Childhood Education. In February 2005, I became certified English as a Second Language grades PK-6. In January 2006, I began pursuing a Master's Degree in Administration from the University of Houston-Victoria. I plan to graduate in the summer of 2008. For five years, I taught a half day Kindergarten program. Now we are full day, and I don’t know how we did it back then. This will be my twelfth year teaching Kindergarten and I love it. This will be my third year to teach our ESL Kindergarten class at Tenie Holmes. I had another great year in my teaching career last year and I am so glad that I can continue in that position. I am honored to be in the teaching profession and I am proud to say that I am a Kindergarten teacher.
I have been married to an wonderful man for 27 years and we have two great children. My son graduated from Texas State University-San Marcos with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management on May 14, 2005 and is in the banking business. My daughter is in her senior year at Texas State University-San Marcos. She will receive a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies 4-8 English/Language Arts & Reading/Social Studies Composite when she graduates in December, 2007.
I must say that working on my website is something that I really enjoy. I love to share ideas and my children's work with all of my fellow Kindergarten teachers around the world. I have been inspired by many of you, but it all began with Victoria Smith and Kinder Korner. I had the privilege of meeting Victoria in March 2003 at her Celebrate Spring Balanced Literacy Workshop in Houston, TX. Her website was the one that I looked at for hours and hours before I finally began mine. It has so many ideas that I am currently using in my classroom. I had never heard of TLC books before and now I can't teach without them. So, I thank Victoria for all of her hard work in putting together such a great website and giving me the inspiration to create one for myself.
