Title

mPPACT - a Methodology for Pupil and Performing Arts Centred Teaching

Description

Excerpted from the website description:

the Comenius mPPACT programme aims to foster a new teaching practice in Europe that engages with contemporary social realities and their reflection in the classroom using participatory performing arts practices to explore identity and transformation.

mPPACT is a movement, it is an approach to arts-centred , pupil-centred teaching practices. And it is a training course offered under the EU long life learning programme, Comenius.

The mPPACT course is aimed at primary and secondary teachers and their pupils, the Comenius mPPACT programme aims to foster a new teaching practice in Europe that engages with contemporary social realities and their reflection in the classroom using participatory performing arts practices to explore identity and transformation. With this quest, the mPPACT programme is devising and refining a practical teachers’ training course, based on the experiences of running it in four different cultural and social settings with all our partners from Greece, Denmark, Cyprus and England.

While the content of the teachers’ work with their pupils will address local context-specific issues (eg, drug-abuse, social exclusion), the content of the teacher-training courses will be the teaching methodology itself.

After the first part of the course (usually a very full week) teachers spend some months in their schools working with mPPACT. Towards the end of that time, they and their pupils devise a performance piece around one of these issues. Finally the performances are shared either by video-platform or webcast, so that all pupils as well s their trainee teachers can share their learning experience as well as comparing the different views of similar issues as presented and explored by a range of school participants. This final phase is seen as a key outcome of the training process, since it affords the pupils themselves a second step in their own learning cycle.

Languages

English is the main language of the project. However with participating members all over Europe, we also offer courses and course materials in Greek and Danish.
