- Two Liberian journalists, Mr. Hisenburg Q. Togba and the late John Q. Worjloh, founded Movement for the Promotion of Gender Equality in Liberia (MOPGEL) in 2000. The founders decided the formation with the realization that cultural and traditional practices denied women/girls access to education, economic empowerment and gender inequalities are major contributory factors towards poverty in Africa, especially Liberia. The founders decided to form a non-governmental organization in order to break the conspiracy of silence surrounding discrimination against women, people with disabilities, children and youth, promote gender equality and at the same time empower women, disabled and youths.
