Description
In 1970, after graduating from the “Deutsche Schule Der Borromaerinnen” in Cairo , Ms. Monda Rafla's family immigrated to the United States . She pursued two university degrees in German Literature and Business Management simultaneously and at the same time began her 25-year career with Bank of America.
In 1995, shortly after her mother passed away, she accompanied her father to what turned out to be his last trip back to Egypt. As she was discovering her passion for photography, she was reconnecting with her family, her culture, and her homeland. Through her camera she began to learn about Medieval Cairo and her magnificent history. As she photographed the Islamic Monuments and the residents of the area, she became conscious of the effects of the earthquake damages and the expeditious renewal efforts that are taking place there. Over the past two years, her passion for photography evolved into an obsession to document part of Cairo’s history through a medium that captures and transmits her beauty, her history, and her majesty for the world to see.
