About modalshift.org
Modalshift.org was set up by Harry Rutter, a public health physician in Oxford, England with a particular interest in transport and health.
He is head of health impact assessment for the South East Public Health Group, deputy director of the South East Public Health Observatory, a specialist adviser to the World Health Organisation European Centre for Environment and Health in Rome, and an honorary senior clinical lecturer in the Department of Public Health at Oxford University. He is a member of a European Commission task force on physical activity, sits on the steering committee of the European network for the promotion of health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA Europe) and represents the Department of Health on the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme task forces on the toolkit and on safe promotion of walking and cycling. He was the 2004-5 scientist in residence at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.
His main professional interest is in the relationships between health and the social and urban environments, with a particular focus on the benefits of cycling. His current research is on the economics of the health benefits of cycling.
