- I'm having a hard time finding the words to describe what's been going on in the past few weeks on the gulf coast. The people whose lives have been destroyed have dealt with not only the wrath of nature but the incompetence of our "leaders". I understand that we cannot prevent natural disasters (well, we actually can because the warmer our climate gets from pollution that we create, the more powerful the hurricanes will become, but that is an entirely different rant). We can however, control what happens to people who don't have food, water, or shelter. I came across a great blog started by a woman from Santa Cruz named Grace Davis. Her site has information on how to donate money and supplies DIRECTLY to shelters and families. She also has information for volunteers (medical and non-medical), as well as contact numbers.
