Sailing Ships and Maritime History - Through Mighty Seas

Several years ago I published a book called "The Ashburner Schooners" * about the first shipbuilders of Barrow-in-Furness, and these maritime history pages have been developed from some of the material in that book.
The website is essentially my online filing system for information on sailing ships from Cumberland and North Lancashire. Much of the information has been gathered by myself, but a great deal has been communicated by others. I acknowledge all contributors on the webpage where their information appears, but here I take the opportunity to thank all the family historians, local history researchers and maritime enthusiasts, from all over the World, who have sent me information over the six years that this website has existed.
At the time of writing there are histories of about 800 vessels included on this site. Since over 1000 sailing ships were built at Whitehaven alone, and since I include vessels built outside the North West if they were at some time owned or registered there, I think this website is going to be one of those projects that is never finished !
