About Us
Husband and wife team Melina and Dodd Raissnia are the principals and founders of Peace Industry. Before they discovered felt rugs in Iran they made peace flags. Melina is a painter and graphic designer. Dodd spent a lot of time traveling and looking for an interesting business venture.
1999 Dodd Raissnia, a native of Iran, visited his homeland for the first time since emigrating to the U.S. in 1976. He bought a small felt rug in a Tehran craft shop and gave it to his friend, Melina, as a gift.
2002-2003 Dodd returns to Iran several times in search of felt makers and meets master felt maker, Haj Ali Halajion, one of the last remaining felt makers in Iran. Dodd apprentices with Halajion as it becomes clear that felt rug making is quickly dying out.
