LOCAL WILDLIFE
Here's just a sampling of the wide array of local wildlife you can expect to see while paddling near Mayne Island: Bald eagles, Stellar and California Sea lions (Oct. - May), Ravens, Harbour seals, Cormorants, River Otters, Blue Herons, Oyster catchers, Deer, King fishers, Racoons, Orca Whales, Wild Mink, Marten and Dolphins.
Hiking and Nature Walks
There are several marked and maintained trails on Mayne Island. The view from Mt. Parke Regional Park is definitely worth the hike, and Georgina Point Heritage Park and Lighthouse is a popular spot for a little whale watching. On a clear day when you hike to the end of Campbell Point Trail, you can see across Georgia Strait to the mainland with Mount Baker towering above it all. A must see is the Japanese Garden at Dinner Bay Park. It's an amazing labour of love created and maintained by volunteers on Mayne Island.
