MavenGlobe.com is really a personal domain. It is the home of freelance designer Jacob Wolfsheimer. The site does not necessarily serve as a portfolio, but I think it goes without saying that all pages on the site should be validating in XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS (This page and the main page should be validating in XHTML 1.1!). The goal is to make every single page Bobby AAA (or W3C AAA) approved as well. While this particular section exudes simplicity, the advice site and the weblog both show that a little color can go a long way in making a site clean and attractive without resorting to complex graphics and Flash. The focus is on content with web design and not web design with content.
If you're scratching your head right now because you're confused, that's perfectly acceptable. Even if you're the first, I'm sure you won't be the last. XHTML 1.0 Transitional is a document type. It's an advanced one, and it's where the web is moving towards. But designing in XHTML 1.0 also means doing it right. Designing to a standard such as XHTML 1.0 is (for me) out of frustration that for all of these years browsers have displayed the same code differently. This has been bad for users and designers. Designing to standards is good for the designer and good for the user. Why don't more people do it? They're afraid to learn or for no good reason they don't see the value in it...and they'll soon be left behind. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. Basically, it's good for separating the design from the content. I can move things around, change colors, and more with just a few words as opposed to rearranging, retyping, and tweaking code to display properly. Bobby AAA is an accessibility guideline.
