It all started in December 1999, when Hana signed the lease on a small unit in Nottingham's West End Arcade. The grand opening was set for the 18th January 2000 (Just after Hana's 19th Birthday weekend), we had less than a month to get it all together.
Together with help from Sarah and Dom, Robin and Hana spent the days (including Christmas and New Year) clearing, cleaning, painting and building in the small unit in West End Arcade. Hana spent some of the time at home ordering, taking delivery, weighing, counting and labelling our first stocks of beads in the attic of the house . In the evenings we would both sort through the beads, re-draw the shop plan, worry about if we were doing the right thing, look for jobs just in case! but finally and only two days overdue, on Thursday 20th January 2000, at 10.00am in the morning we opened 'The Bead Shop At The End Of The Universe' ..............................
.......and have been open 6 days a week ever since (7 days a week in November and and most of December). The name 'The Bead Shop At The End Of The Universe' was first suggested by Hana's dad, Richard as West End Arcade is not really a very inspiring place for any business to grow. It also stuck in the minds of any suppliers that we traded with!
