Description

M I S S I O N S T A T E M E N T

The Madison Blues Society (MBS) is dedicated to increasing awareness, under- standing and appreciation of Blues music in America’s musical heritage. MBS works to expand the presence and vitality of the Blues in the Madison area through promotional events, educational programs, and strengthening links between the community and local musicians.

On 6/22/03 MBS sponsored the MBS 1st Annual Blues Picnic held in Warner Park, with 9 hours of free Blues Music. A crowd of 500-700 enjoyed the gorgeous setting, solid blues sounds, food, picnic blankets, lawn chairs. It was another example of the overwhelming generosity of Madison Blues musicians, with an estimated 80% of the local Blues musicians playing for free for the community. What a great line-up! Lady P’s Dusties kicked us off at 11 a.m. Thony & the Blues Machine, Barbwire Fence, Tate’s Million Dollar Band, Clyde Stubblefield Band Shari Davis & The Hootchy-Kootchy Band, Neckbone, Don Rembert, Ronny G, Charlie Brooks, Bob Corbit, Paul Filipowicz, Jerry Alexander, Steve Skaggs. Westside Andy joined in by giving away his latest CDs to the crowd. Since then, MBS’s 3rd Blues Picnic in 6/05 grew to a even larger crowd. Blues, friends, food, dancing, kid’s activities & a raffle. MBS ran a successful food drive for Atwood Comm Ctr & a beer tent fund-raiser for Vera Court Neighborhood Center. Special set by Jim Libon Trio & “Kids Blues harmonica group with Joe Nosek Nosek.”

  • Our 1st Road Trip to the 2004 Chicago Blues fest was a very great day with a chartered bus trip on 6/12/04. Where to next?
