The Lyric Hammersmith produces and presents some of the most original nights out at the theatre to be found in London and through our free first nights, £9 nights and Studio £7s, and generous concessions, we work to ensure that our audience is as various as the city we live and work in.
The Lyric’s main theatre is a beautiful 550 seat 19th century classical auditorium. We encourage contemporary theatre-makers to be inspired by its uniquely vivid and intimate relationship between stage and audience. The work in this space is rarely, if ever, “new writing” in the usual script-based sense of the word, but usually develops from direct relationships with directors, designers or companies who want to explore the full theatrical potential of the space. As well as the productions we makes ourselves, the Lyric also works with some of the most exciting theatre companies in Britain and abroad.
Our hundred seater black box space is home to the mix – a boundary busting collection of companies and artists who are making their new pieces of work with us. Some of that work goes public; some of it doesn’t (at least, not yet…). But what you get in the Lyric Studio, through a packed programme of readings, works in progress and performances, is a chance to experience the work of the next generation of theatre makers and hear voices that are rarely heard in the theatrical mainstream.
