- LostGecko.com was founded by MWJ Designs at the beginning of 2008. The founders had recently moved to South Florida and were having difficulty in meeting new people and knowing where the cool local places were to visit. There were websites that offered online communities…and there were websites that offered limited reviews and opinions on places; however none of these sites combined the two or were specifically oriented to meet the needs of people who had recently relocated or were exploring a new area. While washing his car one day in the warm Florida sunshine, Matt Johnston hatched the idea of LostGecko.com (lost for his feelings about his new place, and gecko….well just because he loves geckos!). Development began in January 1st 2008 and the beta version of LostGecko.com was released February 15th, 2008 .
