- Lighting Plus had its beginning in 1947 when George Mouchette and Ed Dockery started a motor rewinding and servicing business called Eddie's Electric Motor Service. Lighting products and major appliances were added as a contractor trade division was established. A separate building was erected to house this newest division. When George And Ed's partnership was dissolved in 1971, George Mouchette took over the lighting and appliance division. He named this newest business Lighting & Appliance. George's wife Hazel and their son Brooks joined him. New products were added as business grew. Table lamps brought the company into the retail arena. In August of 1978, Lighting & Appliance moved to its present location on McFarland Boulevard in south Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Lighting & Appliance began to be known as Lighting Plus in April of 1994 because of the growth of decorative products. Today, it is one of Alabama's premier lighting showrooms. Lighting Plus has three sister stores at the present time. Shoals House of Lighting, located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, was acquired in 1987. Lighting Plus of Columbus, Mississippi opened in November of 1993. East Gate Gallery in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, an exclusive appliance and outdoor living store joined the Lighting Plus family in April of 2004.
