A particularly poignant moment in my life occurred in elementary school when I was growing up in the 1950’s in Brooklyn, New York. It was in third grade that the honor student of the class suddenly began sobbing uncontrollably. We found out later that his pain was due to the fact that his father, who was a chiropractor, had been taken to jail for “practicing medicine without a license.
