Democrats have been anticipating the upcoming mid-term elections as their chance to "take back America." They have the vision, and they have a plan. Democrat National Committee Chairman Howard Dean explained that plan in Las Vegas recently at the YearlyKos gathering.
Dean clarifies the stakes: "this isn’t about the Democratic Party; it’s about the United States of America," he warns. Which leads to a first question: how is this unique? Can't the Republicans say the same thing about their electoral efforts? Each party is vying for control of the country. Dean is arguably more honest; politicians strive to consolidate political power. There is no mention of "freedom" or "liberty" in his speech. Of course, one could argue that Republicans talk about freedom but act contrary to their statements. So perhaps the Democrats win a couple of points for honestly professing their authoritarian inclinations.
Dean gives specific examples. "This is how to take back America—working to support the people who work everyday to take back this country: by encouraging community participation—and by throwing out the trolls on your blogs who aren’t helping." The Democrat Party, champions of inclusiveness, want to win by throwing out the slackers. If their plan hinges on eliminating dead weight, why is Dean still DNC Chairman?
