Eisteddfod - a cultural gathering of musicians, poets, writers and artists etc. which takes place across Wales. Eisteddfods originated many years ago to encourage new talents. Dylan Thomas (the poet), Richard Burton and Bryn Terfel are just three famous Welshmen who began their careers in the local Eisteddfods.
Throughout Wales there are numerous ancient castles from Caernarfon castle in the north (which hosted the Investiture of HRH Prince Charles the Prince of Wales in 1969) to Cardiff Castle in the capital which is still used regularly and even hosts pop concerts for famous Welsh bands and singers; Tom Jones, Manic Street Preachers and Sterophonics to name but a few. There is also a wealth of museums, art galleries and ancient monuments eg St Davids Cathedral, various Woollen Mills, Steam Railways, local artists' paintings and sculptures to the Blue Stones on the Preseli Hills and Beddgelert.
