He began his full-time art career at Tamara Backdrops in Chicago. At Tamara, he produced backdrops used in television commercials ads print advertising for numerous major clients, including Nike, Hewlett-Packard, McDonald's, 7-Eleven, Domino's Pizza, and many others.
In 1989, Rick moved to Ann Arbor to work with Tobins Lake Studios. While the majority of his work in Chicago was used by major corporations for commercial use, Tobins allowed him to broaden his work to include theatrical backdrops as well.
During his eleven-year tenure at Tobins, Rick has completed projects for every major American automotive manufacturer (General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Chrysler) as well as other manufactures like Volkswagen and Audi. He has also completed major projects for Henry Ford Museum, the University of Michigan, Star Theaters, Peterbuilt, and WXYZ Channel 7, among many others.
