Dog Tricks, Tips & Insights

"Come! Then sit, and stay a while!"

Dog Training

When you went to school, it seemed like a lot of work until it was time for recess. But when your dog goes to school, he has the time of his life! After all, he gets to be with you and has your full attention. His biggest thrill is to please you so show him what you like. We offer a free dog obedience course (online) that you can follow at your own pace and your dog's own pace. With the step-by-step instructions, most anyone can train their dog in the comfort of their own backyard.

Dog Care

There are some "tricks" to bathing your dog that will make the experience nicer for both of you.

Grooming may not be fun, but it can be a great way to bond. Especially when you learn these tips to make it easier on both of you. Brushing your dog is also the perfect way to find health problems while they are still small and easily treatable. Make him glisten and shine for the show ring, photographs, or just any time that you want your dog to look his best.

Among the monthly tips and articles are some natural remedies, including flea control. You can even find out how to save your dog's life (naturally and on your own) if he swallows a chicken bone or munches on a glass Christmas ornament.

Free Stuff

We list lots of free stuff and coupons toward your favorite items. You can even get free samples of vitamins or food so you can find out if your dog likes them without buying a 5-pound package - what a money saver!

Dog of the Month

Any dog can be a star for a month! And, past dogs of the month are shown on the archives page.

Interesting Reading

There is also much to learn in the articles: "Why Bother to Vaccinate," or "Foods That Can Kill Dogs;" and in links to other sites: "How to Photograph Dogs," "Poisonous Plants," and "Handicapped Pets." But don't stop there, you can also find Dog Trivia, and links to many wonderful books at ridiculously low prices.

Clothing

We've brought together some really cute things, and most are so inexpensive. Coats and sweaters for winter, pajamas to lay by the fire, a tuxedo and top hat for the formal occasion, hats, and sunglasses to protect the eyes.

  • Models, from left to right, include: Tic-Tac, Parka, and Angel - past Dog of the Month stars.

Victorian Source

Victoriansourcebanner.jpg

For Victorian Restoration and Decorating
With Historical Articles and Pictures for Reference

Victorian Source began as a personal list of sites that offered the best selection of items for home and furniture restoration or decorating in the Victorian style. The subsite was soon found by others with the same interest, especially since a review accompanies each listing.

At the very least, it is a great "source" for ideas. Some of the sources inform you on Victorian times and customs (including historical articles and pictures for reference), some have wonderful Victorian items for sale, and some have authentic and reproduction items to restore or decorate your home in the Victorian style.

Also listed are books with incredibly low prices - from an unexpected source. The normal savings are from 15% to 32%, but one book is available now for $1.50. These books include Victorian house plans, pictures of Victorian clothing through the entire era, antique patterns for stained glass windows, instructions on making your own "Victorian" lace, how to decorate in the Victorian style, and so much more.

One of the most popular sections is the free graphics. Some are in the Victorian style, but most are actual Victorian images - cleaned up with Adobe by Photoshop.com. All require a link and credit to be used for non-commercial purposes.

Free Stuff & Coupons

Plus Rebates

Freestuffcouponsandrebates.jpg

Simple lists are available - without the pop-up ads you will find with most freebies. Each listing has a small description with it, and shipping costs are noted the few times they are applicable.

We take advantage of many of these offers ourselves. And, offers are quickly scrapped if they fail to meet our high standards - if a site is annoying to us, it would also annoy our visitors.

(Very few rebates are listed at the moment.)

Safe Natural Cures

More Than Home Remedies

Safenaturalcuresbanner.jpg

These can be used to save money, avoid drugs when possible, and to keep more chemicals out of landfills. These natural remedies are especially handy when you can't get to a doctor right away, or in the event that a disaster (natural or man-made) occurs and you need to fend for yourself.

Maladies range from an ingrown toenail to arthritis. The "cures" involve natural foods, vitamins, herbs, essential oils, and common sense.

Also included are links to informative articles.

Ebay Auction Secrets

This is one of the first and only sites to offer tons of advice on Ebay for free. There are instructions for auction newbies, and old pros have commented that they also learned a few things.

Online Surveys

Onlinesurveysthatpaybanner.jpg

You really can get paid to take surveys (we do), and some people simply like to be able to help in the creation of new products. This site did not start charging for or requiring membership when most others did. It is still all free.

We do our best to avoid linking to sites that require the visitor to make a purchase, but we do include a few sites that require survey answers as a sweepstakes entry. There are surveys available for young people, IT guys (for a much higher payout), pet owners, etc.; certain ethnicities are sometimes preferred; and surveys are offered in many languages.

A warning section is included, in which we print a list of the "survey" sites that simply collect personal information to sell to others.

Disaster Survival

Survivedisasterbanner.jpg

Everyone should be prepared to take care of themselves and their family for at least three days in the event of a manmade (loss of power source, contaminated water source, or a terrorist attack) or natural disaster (earthquake, flood, etc.). Even better would be to have supplies for one to three months. This would not only offer protection and peace of mind in times of disaster but also in case of job layoffs or illness. Most of the information could also be used for someone wanting a self-sufficient lifestyle.

We offer tips and adivce so visitors can prepare on their own, a list of essential items, and product sources.

This section of the site was created because of September 11, 2001. After watching the news stories day after day, the only two choices were to go into a deep depression or to do something to help.

The Blog

Safenaturalcuresandlivingblog.jpg

The Safe Natural Cures and Living Blog contains opinions, advice, and insights on a range of subjects: natural health, family and relationships, natural gardening, the internet, oddities, and perspective. This is a relatively new addition to the Lace to Leather family and the sister site, SafeNaturalTips.com, but already has quite a few entries.

A nice man named Robert keeps asking for our newsletter. This blog, and updating the site as often as possible are as close as we could get. Too many ideas, too little time.
