Description
Kompass has served business and industry for 60 years. It originated in Switzerland in 1945 and is now present in over 70 countries worldwide. Kompass has been active in New Zealand since 1994. Originally run by Profile Publishing it was purchased by Colin Giffney in 1999.
Colin has been a member of the New Zealand Stock Exchange since 1979 and was a founding member of the Surveillance Panel of the New Zealand Stock Exchange. He was a partner and then managing director of the firm, which is now JB Were in New Zealand, until 1995 when he established Giffney & Jones a specialist corporate adviser firm. Today Kompass New Zealand is managed by Colin's son, Sam Giffney, and a small dedicated team.
I was charged with doing a financial report analysing a number of different industries. While I had no problem with the analysis, I had no idea where I could find detailed information on business and industry. ( This was an era when even getting information on public companies was difficult! ) When I expressed my concern, they said 'That part is easy, what you do is the difficult bit' and handed me Kompass.
