The Company
How did we begin? I looked at the market and could only find a few places to buy crochet patterns online. There were only the big companies such as Annie's Attic operating online and their shipping costs always seemed prohibitive, plus deliveries took a long time. Being a crocheter myself, I wanted to be able to go to one website and purchase patterns from many different publishers. That option wasn't really available. So I put my knowledge of the Internet, websites and accounts together with my knowledge of crocheting and knitting and the Karp Styles online web presence was born.
Karp Styles officially opened its online store in August 1999. Orders could only be accepted by fax or mail as we did not have the facitlities for secure credit card ordering. At that time we were a very tiny business with approximately 30 or 40 patterns in our website inventory. Back then we didn't even sell knitting patterns, crochet hooks or knitting needles online. It seems so long ago.
Today we stock of over 900 different patterns making an inventory of around 5000 pattern books. We also have hundreds of crochet hooks and knitting needles in stock, as well as accessories and doll heads. We do not sell yarn online. It seems much nicer for buyers to actually walk into a store and see and feel the yarns available. We continue to grow each year and now ship to countries as far away as Australia, Europe and South Africa.
